Our 40th Anniversary

As we embark on the new school year, we have the honour of celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Halton Waldorf School. This extraordinary milestone signifies our school's incredible growth over the years.

Although many of us are familiar with this beautiful campus, nestled in our forested neighbourhood in northeast Burlington, it's worth noting that the school's rich history traces back to the quaint town of Campbellville.

In the early 1980s, a remarkable journey began as six passionate families united to bring the concept of a Waldorf School to life in their community. Their unwavering commitment and dedication paved the way for the school's inception. The Toronto Waldorf School and the Waldorf School Association of Ontario provided invaluable support during this pioneering stage.

The Halton Waldorf School opened its first kindergarten class with 16 children at a temporary site in Campbellville in 1984. Each subsequent year saw the addition of a new grade one class, leading to the inclusion of all grade levels from one to eight.

In 1988, several families from Oakville, wanting to establish a Waldorf kindergarten for their children, collaborated with the Halton Waldorf School. This collaboration gave rise to The Lakeshore Waldorf Kindergarten, which flourished independently for several years.

With the growth of both campuses, the faculties and boards of Halton Waldorf School and Lakeshore Waldorf Kindergarten decided to merge. In January 2000, we opened our current location at 2193 Orchard Road on a breathtaking five-acre forested property.

Along our journey, another group of dedicated parents emerged, committed to exploring the possibility of establishing the Halton Waldorf High School. Through their unwavering commitment, we brought this vision to fruition and proudly celebrated the graduation of our first grade 12 class in 2022. The grand opening of our physical high school took place on June 3, 2023.

In 2024, we will run a complete preschool through 12 program. Our school community has 177 families, over 270 students, and 52 faculty members.

Our school has experienced profound growth and expansion over the past 40 years. We owe our founding families an immeasurable debt of gratitude for their foresight, dedication, and passion. Their vision and commitment have shaped our school into what it is today.
