Our "Treasure Island" Odyssey - Grade 8 Play Reflections

By Vidushi Uthappa, Grade 8 Student

Ahoy, maties! Prepare to be entertained with the tale of our swashbuckling escapade aboard the Hispaniola in our super fun production of "Treasure Island"! For four days straight, we were transformed into a motley crew of icky pirates, with Director Yo Mustafa at the helm and Producer Suzanne Hill guiding our ship through treacherous waters.

As we donned our pirate costumes and smeared on makeup that would make even Blackbeard shiver, we couldn't help but marvel at our own transformations in the mirror. Some of us were so transformed that we almost didn't recognize each other – a proof to the extraordinary efforts of our makeup crew!

But it wasn't just about looking the part – we had to act like true swashbucklers too! Under Captain Yo Mustafa's guidance, we learned to modulate our voices, wield our swords, and put on our best act for the audience like seasoned pirates. And oh, the fun we had learning! From dramatic lighting to over-the-top accents, each rehearsal was a riot of laughter and camaraderie.

Through it all, we learned the power of collaboration, the joy of creativity, and the importance of working together toward a common goal. From painting sets to putting together our costumes, every member of our crew played a crucial role in bringing "Treasure Island" to life. It was a true learning experience, and we're grateful for the opportunity to explore new skills and talents together.

Special thanks go to Tony and Nicole Adams, Farzin and Nasrin Heydari, Greg and Kamila Wesierski, Ana Borges, Andria Caister, Cynthia Anderson, Shayla Carley, Rowan, and Colleen for their invaluable contributions. Special shout out to Tony Adams for constructing the magnificent pirate ship that served as our vessel on this high-seas adventure. We also wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to Devin Patel and Nathan Adams for their artistry in painting the set and ship, and to Jasmine Anderson for her captivating poster design. And let's not forget the incredible support we received from our families and friends, who cheered us on from the sidelines with unwavering enthusiasm.

As our final curtain call drew near, we gathered for a cast party fit for pirates at the Roseland Club, thanks to the generous hospitality of Kerri and Andrew Latchman. And to cap it all off, we were gifted with the most spectacular sweat-shirts created by Ferris and Stephanie Rafauli – a token of the incredible journey we'd shared together.

As we bid farewell to "Treasure Island" and set our sights on new adventures, we do so with hearts full of gratitude and memories that will last a lifetime. To Director Yo Mustafa, Producer Suzanne Hill, and everyone who made this voyage possible – thank you for an adventure we'll never forget! Until our next adventure on the stage or beyond, fair winds and smooth sailing!
