On Monday, November 13th, the grade 8 class began collecting warm clothing and food items from the school community to donate to the Good Shepherd in Hamilton just before Christmas. On Monday, December 18th, we filled half the bus with all the donations. Thank you to all of you for your generous contributions. We then drove to the Good Shepherd to deliver the goods.
Mark, the director, gave us a tour of the facility showing us all the work that goes into providing for those in need. Mark also told us that poverty is transitional – it is not usually a permanent state in a person’s life. Those who visit the Good Shepherd come from all backgrounds, ethnicities, and races. He also added that everyone is a human being and deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, and equality.
The tour opened our eyes to the extraordinary need in our community, the tireless work of the volunteers and the generosity of people. This generosity even extended to us. Mark would not let us leave without receiving a gift – a gigantic bar of chocolate!
We encourage everyone to be charitable – not just at Christmas but all through the year. The grade 8 donation bins will remain at the school until the March Break.
SEASONS GREETINGS EVERYONE!!
