Educating Children for Over 25 Years

In 1982, a group of six families began to work together to start a second Waldorf school in the Toronto area. Numerous workshops were attended, study groups were set up, a playgroup was organized and finally an experienced Waldorf teacher was found. The Halton Waldorf School opened its first kindergarten class with 16 children in temporary quarters in Campbellville in 1984. Each year thereafter a grade one class was added until eventually we were a full grade school. Throughout our pioneering stage we received great support from the Toronto Waldorf School and the Waldorf School Association of Ontario.

In 1988, several Oakville families became interested in starting a Waldorf kindergarten for their children, and worked with the Halton Waldorf School to establish a satellite classroom. This became The Lakeshore Waldorf Kindergarten, which thrived on its own for several years.

As each of the campuses expanded, the faculties and boards of the Halton Waldorf School and the Lakeshore Waldorf Kindergarten decided to amalgamate under the name of the Halton Waldorf School. This campus opened its doors in January 2000 at 2193 Orchard Road, Burlington. The Orchard Road campus now offers Early Childhood programmes as well as Kindergarten and Grades 1 through 8.

The Halton Waldorf school is a registered not-for-profit, charitable organization. It is an independent, co-educational and non-sectarian day school. It is a member of the Ontario Association for Alternative and Independent Schools, the Association of Waldorf Schools of Ontario (WSAO) and the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA).
