Enrollment

Halton Waldorf School accepts all inquiries. It is a co-educational not-for-profit organization, founded in 1984. The school welcomes students of all races, colour, religion, national or ethnic origin, and from diverse family and economic backgrounds. Children must be at least 3 years old to enter Kindergarten. Children must be 6 years old by June 30 to be considered for first grade the following September.

Halton Waldorf School accepts applications at all times of the year. Students may begin or transfer in at any time, however some discretion is practiced between March Break and June.

The enrollment process begins when you contact the school. Our enrollment team is available to provide information about Open Houses, School Tours or to arrange an in-depth discussion and tour with you. You may also request an information package about Waldorf education and about Halton Waldorf School.

Applications and Interviews

The admissions procedure* begins with the completion of an Application for Admission form. A $100 non-refundable fee is payable when the initial application for enrollment is made. Parents are asked to provide assessments and previous school records or to sign a release allowing the school to request records from the previous school.

When the application package is received, an initial interview is set up which includes the student's parents, the student, the class teacher and another faculty member. Faculty and parents will meet to discuss the student's background and educational placement while the student receives a tour of the school. Then the student and the class teacher will meet briefly before all regroup to conclude. In most cases, grade level is determined by the child's birth date.

The student is invited to spend a minimum of one day in the classroom for which they are applying. These class visits are in lieu of admission tests. Parents do not attend this in-class session. A second parent-teacher interview is sometimes requested.

The decision to accept a child into the class is made by the teaching staff. These decisions are based on an evaluation of the child's school visit, review of the child's student record, parent conference and the needs of existing classes. Parents are informed of the decision in a timely fashion.

* admission process is slightly different for Kindergarten
