Annual Basketball Tournament 2016

On January 29 and 30, 2016, our grade 7 and 8 classes attended the annual basketball tournament hosted by Toronto Waldorf School in Thornhill. The students arrived on Friday afternoon and once they were settled in, played a couple of basketball games, and ate a delicious dinner, they attended a dance for participants of the tournament. Perhaps only at this dance would you see ‘YMCA’ by the Village People performed in eurythmy style! Even our very own Mr. Csefko tore it up on the dance floor with the students…without embarrassing anyone!

“Every year the Grade 7 and 8 students look forward to participating in the Toronto Waldorf school invitational basketball tournament. It is an opportunity to see each child in a very different light. The amount of emotion that is poured into every game by every student fills me with great pride. The tears that are spilled on the floor after every game shows how much it means to represent our school in a positive manner. So many bonds are strengthened and new friendships are made.

Regardless of wins or losses, after every game we would cheer for the other team and then our own. No other school is louder or more competitive and more passionate than ours . And because of that no other school is supported more in the entire tournament.

We laughed, we cried, we yelled, we sang and we danced. But no matter what the outcome was for each game, I will always look at each child as a champion.

Take pride HWS Community, you were represented well.”

Gregory Csefko, HWS Teacher
